small business compliance

We can help with the IT portion of your small business compliance project.

The President’s Corner

As 2017 starts to wind down, what’s on your business planning agenda for 2018? One thing that 2017 has taught us all is that security should always be top of mind. Right now we are seeing a need for unprecedented levels of security for all of our clients as everything turns to a cloud-based, technology-based world.

One way that 2017 has trained TAZ Networks for the future is being an IT compliancy firm. In this past year, we have worked with clients on NIST 800-171 and NIST 800-53 compliance, FISMA compliance, and HIPAA compliance.

If you need an IT firm to help with business compliance requirements, then we would love to help you out. Of note for all business owners and principals is that these compliances are not for the faint of heart. You have to be realistic going in. Business will be affected, and business processes will need to be changed.

Most clients we take on have done IT by themselves at some point and now are in need of additional expertise to assist them. This “IT by growth” strategy is hard to change at first, but you must in order to comply with the above-mentioned compliances. Compliances are set on sound principles and best practices that should have been started from the beginning of a firm’s IT, but can be painful to an organization after the fact. Compliancy WILL change your business and how you conduct it… for the better.

What can you expect if you would like to be NIST or FISMA or HIPAA compliant? A project scope from our team would be created with the assistance of personnel from the client side to determine the scope of compliancy being sought. Then a scoping document is created to outline what we feel it would take to get the client up to date. Most clients also have us work directly with a compliancy consultant who is dedicated to these types of things for more than IT. After the project is accepted, we dedicate a person to work with your team to achieve compliance.

As you plan for 2018, compliances may be on the agenda. Let us help. — Tavis
