A laptop sits in a pile of autumn leaves next to a white coffee cup.

Is your laptop dreaming of crisp autumn days and a fresh, new Windows 11 upgrade? Not so fast…

Should your business upgrade to Windows 11 at release? You may have seen the ads or heard the hype: Windows 11 is on its way soon! Microsoft releases Windows 11 on October 5, 2021.

Believe it or not, it’s almost October already! Decision time approaches: Should your business upgrade to Windows 11 right away?

Is It Always Better to Upgrade to the Newest OS Immediately?

Well, no. Not really. Now, it is true that Microsoft no longer supports or protects Windows 7 (or Windows 8, Windows Vista, or Windows XP). Therefore, your business computers absolutely should have Windows 10 installed. Windows 10, released six (!) years ago, has proven to be a stable and reliable operating system.

However, TAZ Networks recommends holding off updating to Windows 11 until at least 6 months after it’s release date. That puts us around April 2022. Why?

Why You Should NOT Upgrade to Windows 11

Unforeseen incompatibility with multiple other programs is part of the nature of software development. Every operating system ever released has some bugs. Unfortunately, it’s not possible to test every scenario in a lab before release.

Oftentimes, these are worked out quickly and the manufacturer releases an update. Or two. Or several. It can take a few months for the major bugs to get squashed, making a more stable OS.

What is TAZ Networks Doing About Windows 11?

Testing, testing, testing. Several of our technical staff have already installed Windows 11 on their home systems to get familiar with the interface, quirks, and other facets of this new operating system.

As a team, most of us will probably update to Windows 11 at release so that we can become more knowledgeable to assist our clients when updating them to Windows 11.

How and When Should TAZ Networks Clients Upgrade to Windows 11?

We highly recommend waiting to upgrade to Windows 11 for at least 6 months. That way, we will have 6 months of experience working with the operating system before we install it on your network.

We also recommend consulting with TAZ Networks and not upgrading to Windows 11 on your own. We will know which legacy hardware can be upgraded, and which will need replacement. And, we can roll out an upgrade in a gradual and controlled way, which makes for a smoother transition.

Next spring, your account manager will reach out to you about upgrading to Windows 11. At that time, we can discuss your needs, your schedule, and your budget. In the meantime, if you have questions about Windows 11, send these to info@taznetworks.com – we’re here to help you!
