3 tips for back-to-school tech safety

The President’s Corner — Back To School Tech Safety

by Tavis Patterson, President of TAZ Networks

It’s hard to believe that we are in the midst of Q3, and the kids will be going back to school soon – or already have! We don’t service home PCs or tech goodies, but as a technology business owner and a parent, I feel an obligation to stress the need for continual monitoring and oversight of your kids’ technology use. If you have questions, feel free to send them my way. Here are three tips for back to school tech safety:

  1. Set Ground Rules. Make sure your kids know what is ok and not ok for your family. Kids will push the envelope with their technology. So whether that means setting a daily use limit or restricting access to social media sites, it’s important to not just let kids wander the World Wide Web without some key discussions about expected behavior.
  2. Monitor Regularly. We all love our kids, so make sure to monitor their technology. Know their password and check the devices.
  3. Put Antivirus and Tracking Software on the Device. Keep your kids safe by implementing the same safety measures that business folks do. They’ll thank you when they get older!
