SBS Backup 0x800423f4 error resolved?

Well it appears that we might have a resolution to our 0x800423f4 problem that would appear in SBS Backup. We had this problem on 3 servers that all appeared out of the blue. Common fact is that all are SBS 2003 Premium boxes with Service Pack 1 and ISA 2004 installed. Therein lies the problem. Apparently the ISA 2004 logging database instance was causing problems with NTBackup that would just fail the VSS copy.

Here's why to get involved in the community. I posted the problem and a good SMB'er out of WY Rusty Brown saw it. He was experiencing the same issue. He called PSS support and after several attempts got a friendly Michelle Dixon in the TX center. They fixed the problem by reinstalling the advanced logging features of ISA 2004. With Rusty's permission I've put the solution here:

Hope this helps you out, I know it did for us!

Big props to Michelle and Rusty.
