Windows 2003 SP1, Do Not Install on SBS 2003

OK so we're at a new client today updating security patches and finding out that a backup where they were changing tapes for a year wasn't running at all. (Another post for another day!)

But when you go to http://www.windowsupdate.com on an SBS box the first thing you see is the new Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 .

Folks DO NOT install this. We've been told to wait for SBS 2003 Service Pack 1 due out in 60 days. Plain SP1 will cause problems on SBS so save yourself the time and headache and don't install it.

Now if we can just get Microsoft to better recognize SBS in the product lineup again. This is the very reason that SBS has a bad name with a lot of consultants and customers. Why bother with something that at times is treated as the wicked step child of plain vanilla Windows Server 2003.

The reason is that it turns into a beautiful Cinderella when you do what you need to in the right way. (OK I've been watching my 3 year old's movies again, sorry.) Plus it gives small businesses a large bang for the buck.

But for the average Joe Customer who goes to the web site and does what he's told this is just plain not good.
